Venezuela is a country on the verge of collapse with the worst economical, social and political problems faced so far in modern history. It has the highest inflation rate in Latin America, suffering of frequent power blackouts and food shortages. To receive anything for survival caused lines to be between eight to ten hours long.
Despite its crisis, Venezuelans seem to find a way to maintain hope, keeping the strength necessary to live in such poor conditions. The contrast between these two sides of Venezuela – the unrest and the hope – can be appreciated in the landscape itself.
The unique ecosystem of the Venezuelan Paramo is found in the Andes Mountains. The harsh and cold winds, foggy conditions, and extreme weather symbolizes the crisis and unrest found in Venezuela. The vegetation finds an incredible way to adapt to the harsh climate in order to survive. Similarly, the Venezuelan society adapts to the poor condition of the country.
The shortage of medicine has resulted in a Healthcare crisis, leading to many deaths because of simple diseases. Murder rates place the country as one of the top deadliest in the world. Media censorship and political prisoners are an example of the constant oppression of the human rights in Venezuela.
